ASR traces its history back to 1807 when two brothers opened the William and F.C. Haveymeyer sugar refinery.  The Haveymeyer organization continued to grow and form new business alliances throughout the 1800s, ultimately reorganizing in 1891 as The American Sugar Refining Co. (“American Sugar”)  In 1901, American Sugar registered the Domino® brand trademark and boxed refined sugar under the Domino® label made its first appearance in the market.  Throughout the 1900s, American Sugar continued to grow its operation, acquiring refineries in the eastern United States and merging with other sugar producers.  In the last thirty years, American Sugar underwent a series of name changes, as a result of several asset sales and stock sales.  In 1986, the company registered as a Delaware corporation.  It was acquired by its current owners in November 2001 and since June of 2002, has been known as American Sugar Refining, Inc.
